Rotary Club of Fort Worth Embarks on Humanitarian Mission to Swaziland – Partnership established between Sister Cities and Rotary

A delegation of 25 adults from Fort Worth will depart for Mbabane, Swaziland today. While there participants from the Rotary Club of Fort Worth and Fort Worth Sister Cities will deliver nearly 300 wheelchairs directly to those in need.

“Our Swazi trip is taking the Rotary Wheelchair program to the next level. We are not only distributing donated wheelchairs to those in need, we are establishing a wheelchair and bicycle repair shop business that Mbabane citizens will operate long after we are gone,” said David Campbell, Rotary President. “The training and equipment we provide will make this project sustainable, creating a legacy of trade skills that will provide jobs for years to come.”

Additionally, Dream Outside the Box founder Kam Phillips and team will provide “Dream Delivered” boxes to the Swazi children. These boxes, brimming with fun and educational activities and pamphlets, are designed to introduce children to diverse careers, such as forensic science, journalism, and archaeology.

Sister Cities leadership will also meet with U.S. Ambassador to Swaziland Lisa Peterson to discuss other needs of Swaziland and how Fort Worth can be of assistance. “This relationship is one of the most valuable ones Fort Worth.  We have the opportunity to meet these amazing people and learn from them.  They teach us much more than we give them on how to relate to others and respect diversity,” said Mae Ferguson, President/CEO of Fort Worth Sister Cities.
